sparrow

hello little sparrow.
will you stay a while this time?
I remember the last,
when you sped away so fast
and so far,
ever-smaller you became
til you merged with the feathery pillowed
clouds.
I've brought some feed
and my patience.
Were I not to approach too quickly
were the crunch of crisp foliage not too sharp
in your tiny ears,
would you then feel the desire
to join me in dance.

on the wind, you mastered your craft
of painting in motion.
so much more awkward whilst grounded,
I wish I could join you
as a plume on the spiraling breeze
never certain where we may land
and never concerned.

little sparrow are you listening
to the rush of air, building steam?
little sparrow are you scared?
